Cross-Layer Based Rate Control for Lifetime Maximization in Wireless Sensor Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), lifetime maximization is a critical issue because of the restricted power supply. Therefore, the objective of lifetime maximization is to save energy for each sensor node. However, the application performance depends strongly on the amount of data gathered from each source node in the network. Higher data rates causes greater sensing and communication costs resulting in a reduction of the overall network lifetime. There is thus an inherent trade-off in maximizing the network lifetime and the application performance. In this paper, we take both application performance and lifetime maximization into account, use a cross layer optimization framework and propose a distributed rate control algorithm. Our numerical result shows that our scheme can maximize the network lifetime and guarantee the application performance.

Lifetime Maximization by Cross-Layer Design considering Power Control, MAC, Routing in Sensor Networks
We consider the cross-layer design considering physical layer, MAC layer, and network layer to maximize the lifetime of energy-constrained wireless sensor network. Our solution is based on system model that considers reliability as well as physical layer (i.e., power control), data link layer (i.e., link scheduling) and network layer (i.e., routing protocol) jointly. To obtain more energy-effic...

A sensor network is made up of a large number of sensors with limited energy. Sensors collect environmental data then send them to the sink. Energy efficiency and thereby increasing the lifetime of sensor networks is important. Direct transfer of the data from each node to the central station will increase energy consumption. Previous research has shown that the organization of nodes in cluster...

Due to the resource constraint and dynamic parameters, reducing energy consumption became the most important issues of wireless sensor networks topology design. All proposed hierarchy methods cluster a WSN in different cluster layers in one step of evolutionary algorithm usage with complicated parameters which may lead to reducing efficiency and performance.
